Providing group home solutions for persons with intellectual disabilities is an important aspect of them building a more self-sufficient and fulfilling lifestyle. The effort involved in day-to-day tasks can be difficult for our participants and providing a safe environment with on-site supervision supports their independence.
In addition to developing their own skills, participants are able to benefit from continued peer interaction. One of the most difficult aspects for persons with intellectual disabilities is a feeling of isolation. Being able to spend each day around their peers helps them build a network of their own to rely on for support, community and entertainment. This can be an invaluable addition to the mental well-being of our participants.
Locations
Our group homes are designed to ensure that all participants can feel right at home with their neighbours. We have two locations in Cudworth and each have five participants residing in them. Each of these buildings are clean, in excellent repair, landscaped and provide appropriate accommodations for our participants. An important aspect of developing independent living is spending time outdoors and our team ensures that our participants receive a change of scenery with some fresh air each day. All in all, our staff takes extra care to make sure that everyone is treated like family.

Support living for participants.
Our team work rotating day and night shifts are each of our group homes to ensure that participants are cared for. Through recreational activities and designated Activity Workers, we can bring guided and focused learning to our participants that support their independence.
Columbian Industries’ on-site staff is also available to support with organizing and coordinating appointments, medication schedules, transportation and finances if needed. Our team is also able to lend their tactful guidance with routine tasks such as grocery shopping, house cleaning and other menial chores. This provides a great deal of comfort not only to our participants but to their families. They can rest assured that their loved ones are in caring hands and living a life of enjoyment.
